Refining: which city, and how much comes back

Refining turns raw resources into what crafting needs. Where you refine decides how much comes back, and that is most of the profit.

What goes in

Each refine takes raw resources of a tier, plus one refined piece of the tier below (from tier 3 up). Three tier-5 hides and one tier-4 leather make one tier-5 leather, for example (tiers 6 and up take four or five). So refining a high tier means refining every tier under it too, or buying those pieces.

Each city refines one resource best

Every royal city adds 40% to the production bonus for the one resource it is known for:

How much comes back

The production bonus becomes a return rate (how it’s worked out is in Crafting profit):

WhereWithout focusWith focus
The resource’s own city36.7%53.9%
Any other royal city15.3%43.5%

In practice: of the hides and leather that go into refining in Martlock without focus, about 37 in every 100 come back to refine again, against about 15 anywhere else. With focus, more than half come back.

The day’s production bonus

The game gives a daily production bonus to some kinds of crafting and refining. It is added to the city’s bonus: a +10% day on leather in Martlock makes 68%, so about 40.5% comes back. The front page shows today’s bonus, as players’ companions saw it in the game, and the calculator counts it.

Where to sell

Refined resources sell in the cities. The Black Market doesn’t buy resources, so the calculator never counts selling them there. Compare cities first: the same leather can sell for noticeably more in one city than in the next.

Carrying it all

Resources are heavy. The calculator’s run shows the shopping list city by city, the weight, and a route on the map. It keeps out of red zones unless you choose otherwise, because what you carry there can be lost.

Try it

On the crafting page, the Refining buttons (Planks, Bars, Leather, Cloth, Stone) list every tier with what it costs and what it brings.
